
Terriers Skate to 2-2 Tie, Win Shootout at Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Boston University women's ice hockey team (3-10-1, 2-5-1 HE) skated to a 2-2 tie before winning a shootout 2-0 against Providence (4-9-2, 2-3-2 HE) on Saturday afternoon at Schneider Arena.
The Friars took a 2-0 lead in the first period before BU responded with a goal late in the second. The Terriers pulled their netminder at the end of third for an extra attacker and evened the score with 29 seconds to play. After a scoreless overtime, BU won the shootout, 2-0, to secure an extra point in the Hockey East standings.
Junior Greta Henderson and senior Sydney Healey scored for BU. Sophomore Kaileigh Quigg, junior Neely Nicholson and seniors Clara Yuhn and S. Healey each registered one assist. Senior Luisa Welcke and S. Healey scored for the Terriers in the shootout. Junior Mari Pietersen made 17 saves in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just under five minutes into the opening stanza, the Friars took a 1-0 lead.
- Providence held that lead until 18:24, when it tacked on another goal to go up 2-0 headed into the second frame.
- At the 4:42 mark, Providence went to the box for boarding, but BU did not convert on the power play.
- The Terriers then went to the box for body checking at 7:58 and successfully killed the penalty.
- BU cut Providence's lead in half at 17:26 when passes from S. Healey and Quigg made their way to Henderson, who found the back of the net off a shot from the slot for BU's first goal of the game.
- Both teams skated evenly through the third period and BU pulled Pietersen from the posts at 17:16.
- With 29 seconds left in the third, Yuhn's rebounded shot and Nicholson's deflection found S. Healey, who lifted the puck in at the near post to even the score, 2-2, and force the game into overtime.
- In the overtime period, Providence's netminder was assessed a delay of game penalty with 2:07 on the clock, giving BU a 4-on-3 advantage for two minutes.
- Netiher team scored in the extra frame as the game went to a shootout.
- Providence missed on both attempts while Lu. Welcke and Healey, respectively, found the vack of the net to earn the 2-0 shootout win.
GAME NOTES
- BU outshot Providence, 36 to 21.
- BU was 0-for-2 on the power play and Providence was 0-for-1.
- Two of the three penalties came in the second period with the third coming in overtime.
- The Terriers won 37 faceoffs compared to Providence's 15.
