
Newman, Barber Earn Patriot League Weekly Honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Senior Haley Newman was named the Patriot League Swimmer of the Week and freshman Molly Barber picked up Rookie of the Week honors, the League announced on Tuesday.
Newman, an Anaheim, California native, won the 200 IM (2:01.11) at the Terrier Invite this past weekend, and her time marked a school record in the event as well as the fastest time in the Patriot League this season. She also finished second in the 400 IM (4:22.32) and the 200 Fly (2:00.43) and both times rank third in the League this year. Newman alco swam a 1:50.41 freestyle leg in the champion 800 Free Relay, which finished in 7:27.82. Her performances led the Terriers to their first win at the Terrier Invite since 2018.
Barber, an Ottawa, Ontario native, played a part in five wins at the Terrier Invite this weekend and helped break two records in the 400 Medley Relay (3:41.41) and the 200 Medley Relay (1:41.05). She won the 50 Free with a 22.90 time and the 100 Free with a 50.38 mark, while swimming a 49.95 time in the preliminaries. That preliminaries mark is second in the conference this season and second all-time at BU. Her 400 medley relay anchor leg was a time of 49.44 and she swam a 22.56 anchor leg for the 200 medley relay, both of which finished first. The Terriers also took the 400 Free Relay crown in 3:22.83, which Barber swam in. The freshman also swam the 100 Fly in 55.02, which is eighth all-time at BU.
