
Newman Wins 200 Fly Title to Close Out PL Championships

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Highlighted by the third Patriot League gold medal of junior Haley Newman's career, the Boston University women's swimming & diving team turned in a strong final day at the Patriot League Championships on Saturday at Kinney Natatorium.
Newman turned in an impressive performance in the 200-yard butterfly, coming from behind with a dominant final 50 yards to claim gold in a time of 1:58.94.
The Terriers placed three swimmers in A finals on Saturday and added a pair of top-10 finishes in the 1650-yard freestyle to end up fifth in the team standings.
Sophomore Izzy Valantiejus swam the fastest mile by a Terrier in five years, posting a 17:00.18 to take fifth place while freshman Katie Pestrichelli took10th in 17:10.51.
Sophomore Cambria Jewett (200 back) and junior Stella Langenbach (100 free) made their respective A finals. Jewett placed fifth in a time of 1:59.35 while Langenbach captured sixth (50.93).
Senior Alex Pastushan had a strong finish to her career, taking 11th in the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:01.63. Freshman Julijana Jelic was two spots behind with a 2:01.91.
Another senior finished strong with Julia Owerko setting a personal best in the 200-yard breast to take 18th. Sophomore Izzy Ramos took 22nd (2:24.96) in the same race.
In addition to Newman's top performance, sophomore Milena Busma placed 23rd in the 200 fly with a time of 2:11.66.
