Barnes, Shannehan Earn PL Weekly Honors
March 10, 2025 | Men's Lacrosse
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Senior Will Barnes and freshman Timothy Shannehan each received a Patriot League weekly award, the conference announced on Monday.
Barnes was named PL Goalkeeper of the Week and Shannehan was selected as PL Rookie of the Week. This is the second time this year that both players have been recognized, as they both earned these exact honors on Feb. 10. The duo was instrumental in the Terriers' 21-12 win at Bucknell on Saturday.
While the offense was terrific for the Terriers on Saturday, Barnes backstopped a BU defense that kept the Bison in check for much of the day. He made 12 saves and allowed just 10 goals on Saturday, with five of his stops coming in the second quarter to help BU maintain a three-goal lead heading into halftime. Barnes then made three big stops in the third quarter to help the Terriers go on a 7-3 run and pull away from the Bison. The second-year starter ranks 13th in the NCAA in both save percentage (.588) and goals-against average (8.30).
Shannehan had another electric day for the Terriers in their 21-12 win over Bucknell, collecting a career-best nine points on four goals and a career-high five assists. He factored on the Terriers' first three goals of the game to help BU take the lead and never give it up. Shannehan is just the second freshman in program history to record a nine-point game and the first since Chris Gray did it twice in 2018. He leads BU with 33 points on 17 goals and a team-high 16 assists; Shannehan is also seventh in the NCAA in points per game (5.50) and eighth in the country in assists per game (2.67).
