Amy Thompson Rejoins Women’s Soccer Program as Assistant Coach

BOSTON – Two-time All-Patriot League selection and Terrier alumna Amy Thompson (CAS'22, Wheelock'25) has returned to the Boston University women's soccer program as an assistant coach ahead of the 2025 campaign, head coach Megan Burke formally announced on Thursday afternoon.
"We are so excited to welcome Amy back to BU," said Burke. "Her energy, work ethic and pride for this program will make her a tremendous addition to our staff. She is someone who truly understands what it means to be a Terrier."
""I am so excited to join the program once again," said Thompson. "It is an honor to be able to coach such an awesome group of women as well as to work alongside and learn from an intelligent and joyful coaching staff."
Thompson suited up for the Terriers for two seasons from 2021 to 2022, capping her career with eight goals and two assists for 18 points across 34 appearances in the Scarlet & White. While at BU, she also participated in the Bloom Family Leadership Academy and worked in the Facilities department as a student assistant.
In her first campaign in Terrier Town in 2021, she was tied for the team lead with four goals across 14 games en route to an All-Patriot League Third Team selection. She followed that up with four goals and nine points as a captain during her fifth year in 2022. Tying for second on the team and seventh in the Patriot League, she potted three game-winning goals in conference play. All three occurred in the second half, including two in the final 10 minutes of regulation in 1-0 victories over Navy and Lehigh. For her efforts, she garnered All-Patriot League First Team, Academic All-Patriot League Team and CSC Academic All-District Team honors.
Prior to her time at Boston University, Thompson played three seasons at the University of Tennessee. She made 41 total appearances, registering three goals and four assists.
Upon earning her undergraduate degree in Sociocultural Anthropology from BU's College of Arts & Sciences, Thompson became a strength and conditioning graduate assistant in BU's athletic department. Working with a variety of teams, she led lifting sessions and workout programs while utilizing her background as a student-athlete. She recently earned her graduate degree in Education from the Wheelock College of Education & Human Development at BU this past May.
Thompson gained coaching experience last fall as an assistant coach at Simmons University. Working with head coach and former Terrier teammate Ann Marie Jaworski (CAS'20, Wheelock'22), she helped oversee two All-GNAC selections with Cerys Balmer (first team) and Stephanie Mendoza (All-Sportsmanship). The Sharks earned 16 points in conference play, 11 higher than the previous season.
