January 12, 2026 | Men's Ice Hockey
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — The No. 20 Boston University men's ice hockey team used two second-period goals to take the lead and overcome the Harvard Crimson on Monday night, 4-1.
The Terriers (11-9-1, 7-6-0 HE) took the lead in the second period thanks to two goals in 1:06 after entering the frame down 1-0. From there, they never looked back, outlasting the Crimson (7-7-1, 5-4-0 ECAC) and potting two empty-net tallies in the final period to earn the win.
Harvard scored first, but a goal from freshman Conrad Fondrk in the middle of the second period tied the game at 1-1. Then it was classmate Jonathan Morello's turn, scoring on a tip-in to make it 2-1.
BU kept up the momentum in the third period and was rewarded with two empty-net goals coming off the sticks of freshman Ben Merrill and sophomore Sacha Boisvert.
Eight different Terriers earned assists: Boisvert, Morello, sophomores Sascha Boumedienne, Cole Hutson, Kamil Bednarik and Cole Eiserman and juniors Aiden Celebrini and Gavin McCarthy.
In net, sophomore Mikhail Yegorov posted a 28-save effort and allowed just one goal. On Harvard's side, sophomore Ben Charette made 29 saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With 11:46 remaining in the first, McCarthy intercepted a Crimson pass and fired the puck from blue line to blue line, where Merrill was able to gather it and shoot on a breakaway, but the puck was saved.
- The Crimson opened the scoring at 13:15 in the first as Joe Miller got a puck past Yegorov in transition.
- BU would have a few chances to score but couldn't capitalize, including a shot from the slot by Fondrk that rattled off Charette's mask and stayed wide.
- BU went into the first intermission down 1-0.
- With not much happening offensively in the first 9:02 of the second, freshman forward Tynan Lawrence made a nifty move to get around a defender and create a chance for himself, but his shot was off target.
- With 8:59 remaining in the second, Fondrk picked up a loose puck in the offensive zone and found an open shooting lane, firing his third goal of the season past Charette to make it 1-1.
- Then just 1:06 later, Morello broke up a pass in the offensive zone, then got in position in front of the net and tipped in a point shot to make it 2-1 Terriers.
- BU would hold the lead for the remainder of the period.
- The Crimson picked up the pressure in the third, outshooting BU 7-5 in the first 10:45 of the frame, but Yegorov remained steady in net.
- With 2:25 remaining, the Crimson pulled Charette and BU capitalized.
- Bednarik blocked a shot, Morello chipped the puck down the ice and Merrill chased it down and saucered it over a Harvard defender and into the empty cage to make it 3-1 with 1:38 remaining.
- Then it was Boisvert's turn, as he chased down a puck that Celebrini dug out and Eiserman fluttered down the ice before tucking it home.
- For the third straight game, the Terriers failed to score in the opening period.
- Hutson now has 21 points this season. That mark is first among Hockey East defensemen and fourth of any Hockey East skater.
- The Terriers outshot Harvard 33-29, marking the sixth game in a row the Terriers have outshot their opponent and the eighth instance in the last nine games.
- Morello had two points, marking his second career multi-point performance and first since Oct. 10, 2025 against Colgate.
- For the first time in his career, Yegorov has only allowed two goals or fewer in his past three starts.
- The Terriers will next play a home-and-home with UMass Lowell beginning Friday (Jan. 16) at 7 p.m. at Agganis Arena and concluding Saturday (Jan. 17) at the Tsongas Center with a 6:05 p.m. puck drop.
