Lightweight Rowing Snags Two Wins in Saturday Races
April 18, 2026 | Women's Lightweight Rowing
BOSTON – The Boston University lightweight rowing program collected two victories in its final race of the spring on the Charles River on Saturday (April 18) as it took on crews from Harvard-Radcliffe, MIT, Sacred Heart and Gordon.
BU won the Lightweight "A" Double and the Lightweight 4 "B" races. In the annual Beanpot matchup between Radcliffe, MIT and BU, Radcliffe was victorious.
Crews battled suboptimal conditions such as fog, temperatures south of 50 degrees on the water, choppy currents and gusty tailwinds throughout the morning.
The Terriers' Lightweight "A" Double with Catherine Clark in the bow seat and Cece Mason in the stroke seat began the morning against Radcliffe, Sacred Heart, MIT and Gordon. BU and Radcliffe locked into a duel for first in the opening 750 meters, but the Terriers executed a higher stroke rate right before the Mass. Ave. Bridge to take a lead they would not relinquish. BU crossed the finish line first in 7:40.874, just under 10 seconds in front of Radcliffe.
Chloe Capizzi in the bow seat and Aviva Chen-Oretsky in the stroke seat comprised BU's Lightweight "B" Double against MIT and Gordon. MIT's strong start pushed it in front while the Terriers maintained a length on the crew in second. However, the Engineers gradually pulled away in the second half of the course to take the win. BU placed second in 8:42.750, nearly six seconds in front of Gordon.
Racing continued with the Lightweight 4 "A" coxed by Mira Saldanha and stroked by Mia Seibert. BU, Radcliffe and MIT engaged in a battle through the opening 500 meters as the Terriers roared off the start line in a high rate. As water conditions worsened in the final 750 meters, Radcliffe triumphed while MIT placed second. BU settled for third with a time of 7:45.900.
BU's Lightweight 4 "B" crew, coxed by Amna Rezvi and stroked by Emilia Vukasinovic, squared off against MIT and Radcliffe. All three crews were within one length of each other in the first 500 meters with the Terriers out in front. BU expanded its lead at the midpoint to open water and finished with three lengths of open water for the victory in 7:45.800. MIT was next at 7:50.629.
The Beanpot rounded out the morning's festivities as BU's Lightweight 8 was coxed by Lylah Nag and stroked by Hannah Clark. All four crews experienced a delayed start, then Radcliffe and BU broke out in the first 400 meters. Those crews built open water by the Mass. Ave. Bridge, but the Terriers caught a crab under the bridge. BU recovered and overtook the MIT boat that passed them to finish second in 6:45.543 as Radcliffe claimed the trophy.
Following the morning, the Terriers honored their eight-member senior class: Caroline Burchette, Catherine Clark, Ela Ersan, Nora Hemsley, Kylie Lough, Zoe Meurer, Elizabeth Falo-Yohn and Carly Milosevic.
BU's season continues next Saturday (April 25). Multiple crews make the cross-country journey to Redwood City, Calif. to face Stanford while others head to Lake Quinsigamond for races against Rhode Island and Delaware.
