Men's Soccer Ties With Towson
October 24, 1999 | Men's Soccer
After a hard-fought 120 minutes, Boston University and Towson University settled for a scoreless tie in a key America East matchup at Nickerson Field on Sunday.
The Terriers controlled much of the game, outshooting Towson 20-5, but were unable to beat goalkeeper Chris Hurley, who came up with 11 saves for the Tigers.
The best scoring chance of the game came at the 58:53 mark when the Terriers' Kirk Miller was awarded a penalty kick, but Hurley dove to his right to smother the shot.
Towson's closest scoring opportunity came four minutes into the first overtime period, when a potential game-winning header by sophomore forward Todd Lauber glanced off the post.
Boston University goalkeeper Matt Smith stopped three shots to earn his fourth shutout of the season.
With the tie, Boston University is now 7-5-5 overall, with a 3-2-2 mark in the conference. They will close out the regular season with two critical America East games at Hofstra and Drexel on Friday and Sunday.
Towson, who defeated Northeastern 1-0 on Friday night, is now 8-3-4 overall with a 4-2-1 conference record.
