Women's Basketball Suffers First Loss

FRESNO, Calif. -- The Terriers' women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday night (November 27th), as it bowed to Fresno State, 83-57, in the first round of the Fresno State Classic.
After opening their season with wins over Colgate and Harvard, the Terriers fell victims to poor shooting both from the floor and the free throw line in the losing effort.
B.U., which had hit on over 43 percent of its shots from the field in the first two games, converted on just 34.9 percent of its shots against Fresno State. The Terriers also had problems from the free throw line hitting on 61.5 percent of their attempts, compared to 79.4 percent in their first two games.
By comparison, Fresno State shot 51.4 percent from the field and a perfect 1.000 percent from the free throw line en route to evening its record at 2-2.
In the first half, B.U., which hit on 10-of-33 shots from the field for 30.3 percent and was 0-for-3 from the free throw line, was outscored 38-23.
The Terriers did improve on their shooting in the second half, as they hit on 12-of-30 attempts from the field for 40.0 percent and 8-of-10 from the free throw line for 80 percent. However, Fresno State continued to shoot well after intermission, as it was 16-of-30 from the field for 53.3 percent efficiency and 12-of-12 from the free throw line.
Three Terriers scored in double figures.
The group was headed by Alison Dixon, who scored 16 points, just slightly off her season average of 18.5 ppg through the first two games.
Jennifer Tulley, who came off the bench and played 25 minutes, was just behind Dixon with 15 points, above her two-game average of 9.5 ppg.
Finally, Anne Nelson scored 10 points and had a team-leading 7 rebounds. In the two previous games, she had averaged 3.5 ppg and 2.5 rpg.
The Terriers did an enjoy an edge in rebounds, 38-35.
