BOSTON (June 24) -- Gabrielle Butler has been named an assistant coach on the Boston University women's basketball staff, head coach Margaret McKeon announced.
It will be a reunion for Butler and McKeon, who both served on the George Washington University women's basketball coaching staff under head coach Joe McKeown. McKeon was named as Boston University's fifth head women's basketball coach on April 26.
Gabrielle has a great sense of loyalty to me along with tons of recruiting experience, McKeon said. She excelled at recruiting excellent student-athletes while at GW, including Kodak All-Americans Tajama Abraham and Noelia Gomez, and will bring that same commitment to success to Boston University.
An assistant coach at George Washington University for the past eight seasons, Butler also served as the girls' varsity basketball coach at Georgetown Visitation Prepatory School from 1989-91. At GW, Butler helped guide the Colonials to seven 20-win seasons, three Atlantic 10 championships, and six appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
At B.U., Butler will be the program's recruiting coordinator and will also handle various on-the-court teaching with the Terrier post players.
A native of Washington, D.C., Butler earned a B.S. degree in government from Franklin & Marshall in 1985. At F&M, she earned varsity letters in both basketball and lacrosse.
