Men's Soccer Blanked By New Hampshire, 2-0
October 7, 2000 | Men's Soccer
The Terrier men's soccer team, looking for its first America East Conference win of the season, bowed to host University of New Hampshire, 2-0, on Oct. 6.
The loss dropped B.U.'s overall record to 4-5-2, while it is 0-2-1 in the league. In the meantime, New Hampshire improved to 5-4-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the conference.
The Wildcats scored the only goal they would need at 25:50 of the match when freshman Josh Hareld dribbled the ball into the box where he fired a shot to the right side of the B.U. goalkeeper Matt Smith (Lanchester, England).
It was the first action of the season for Smith, who had missed the first half of the year with a broken bone in his right hand. He suffered the injury just prior to the beginning of the Terriers' pre-season camp.
UNH added an insurance goal at 85:26 when Andy Karam took a pass from Hareld and scored into an empty net.
The Terriers' best chance to score came midway through the second half when Markus Raisanen (Lotitaja, Finland) headed a ball toward the net that hit the crossbar.
Junior Shaun O'Neil (Wrentham, Mass.) earned the win for New Hampshire as he lowered his GAA from 1.12 to 0.97. He has not allowed a goal in his last 205:52 of action.
Smith, who had two saves, was charged with the loss.
