PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Boston University men's soccer team earned its first draw of the season, a 1-1 decision, on Monday night against Providence.

The Terriers struck first in the 50th minute when sophomore Sebastian Otero weaved through Providence defenders to connect with freshman Ryan Ghajar and put the Terriers up 1-0. In the 82nd minute, the Friars evened the score when Angelo Ventrella found the back of the net off a penalty kick.

BU's offense kept putting pressure on Providence as junior Jack Grossman and Otero each had shots on goal in the final nine minutes of play, but were unable to regain the lead.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Senior Ben Alexander made his first save of the night at the 4-minute mark off a shot by Providence's Caleb Williams.
Senior Andrea Di Blasio took BU's first shot of the night in the 14th minute, which was saved by Providence's Ryan Carney.
In the 17th minute, junior Dylan Williams gave BU another opportunity to get on the board first with a shot aimed for the bottom center which was saved. Four minutes later, Williams took his second shot of the night, which was also saved.
Alexander made back-to-back saves in the 25th minute, preventing David Casado from scoring in both shots. He recorded his fourth save at the 26-minute mark.
Di Blasio and junior Ben Bagshaw fired two consecutive shots in the 37th minute.
In the 40th minute, Alexander made his fifth save off a shot by David Casado.
The first yellow card of the game was assessed to Providence's Alvaro Maneiro in the 43rd minute.
In the final minutes of the first half, Providence attempted to put itself on the board with two consecutive shots, one of which was a header that went wide.
In the 50th minute, Otero cut through a wall of Providence defenders to connect with Ghajar, who fired the ball into the back left of the net for his first career goal.
A yellow card was given to Otero in the 68th minute, then the BU bench was given a yellow card in the 70th minute.
Alexander recorded his sixth save of the night in the 67th minute.
Otero was given a yellow card in the 69th minute.
Ventrella evened the score off a penalty kick, firing the ball into the top right of the net in the 82nd minute.
In the 83rd minute, Grossman tried to regain the lead for BU with a shot aimed for the top right of the net.
Otero attempted to give BU the advantage one last time with a shot aimed for the bottom left of the net, which was saved.
