Men's Soccer Team Loses At Hofstra, 2-0
October 5, 2001 | Men's Soccer
The Hofstra University men's soccer team scored a pair of first-half goals, and they stood up en route to a 2-0 win over the visiting Terriers on Friday (October 5th). It evened B.U.'s conference record at 1-1-0, while the overall mark slipped to 5-4-0.
The Pride scored what proved to be the game-winning goal just 8:52 into the match when Hughroy Daley made a diagonal run across the field that beat two Terrier defenders. He then blasted a hard shot into the left corner from the top of the penalty area that beat Terrier freshman goalkeeper Zak Thompson (Silver Spring, MD). Thompson was making his second straight start for the injured junior Matt Smith (Lanchester, England).
Hofstra added an insurance goal at the 18:00 minute mark when a hard low cross by Shaun Higgins was deflected by a Terrier defender past Thompson.
The Terriers played a man down for the entire second half after sophomore defender Michael Feely (Lemmington Spa, England) received his second yellow card with two minutes left in the opening half.
Thompson had five saves in the Terrier goal, while Justin Varrone had four saves in the Hofstra net.
