Second Half Rally Fuels Terrier Comeback
November 10, 2001 | Women's Basketball

BOSTON - Larissa Parr (Eau Claire, WI) found fellow freshman Adrienne Norris (Delafield, WI) for a lay-up to cap an 11-2 run in the final six minutes of the second half, as the Terriers defeated the Basketball Travelers in exhibition play, 44-43, at Case Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 10). Junior guard Alison Argentieri (Hornell, NY) led the Terriers with 16 points, connecting on 4-of-7 from three-point range.
Both teams struggled offensively in the first half, with the Terriers managing just 23 percent from the field on 6-of-26 shooting, and the Basketball Travelers hitting just 7-of-16. The Terriers led at the half, 21-19, with Argentieri scoring eight points and sophomore guard Katie Terhune (Port Murray, NJ) adding seven.
With nine minutes left in the second half, the Basketball Travelers went on a 8-0 run to go up 41-33. The Terriers answered with an 8-0 run of their own, with Parr driving the lane and finding Norris open to put B.U. up with eight seconds remaining. The two freshmen had six points, two blocks, two assists, and a steal during the run.
"They don't play like freshman," said head coach Margaret McKeon. "They don't feel any pressure. They saw the chance to win and wanted the opportunity to make the play."
The Basketball Travelers, a team from Turkey playing against college teams in exhibitions this fall, were led by Tugba Tasci and Gulizar Kolcalar, who scored 11 points each.
The Terriers outrebounded the Travelers, 42-29, and had 18 offensive boards, with five coming from Ashley Carr (Milwaukee, WI). The sophomore, who played in just six games last season due to a number of injuries, had a team-high eight rebounds.
Despite shooting 26 percent from the field, the Terriers were able to produce in the final six minutes of the game to seal the victory.
"We played hard and got after them," said McKeon. "We did some nice things defensively to start the run at the end, with two big blocks that created turnovers. The bottom line is this team wants to win."
The Terriers open their 2001-2002 regular-season next Saturday (Nov. 17) when they face South Florida in the first round of the B.U. Invitational. Game time is 3 p.m.
