Men's Soccer Downs Quinnipiac In Diadora Classic

Senior Joachim Kaland (Fonnes, Norway) scored a pair of goals to help lead the Terrier men's soccer team to a 4-2 win over Quinnipiac on Sunday (September 23rd) in the final day of action in the Diadora Classic hosted by the University of Rhode Island.
The Terriers finished the tournament 2-0-0, as they defeated George Mason, 6-2, on Friday night (September 21st).
With his two goals on Sunday, Kaland finished the tournament with 4-1-9 as he had a pair of goals and an assist in the win over George Mason.
Sunday's victory improved the Terriers' record to 4-2-0, and they are off until this Saturday (September 29th) when they play their first home game of the season. The match will be against Boston College, and it will start at 1:00 p.m.
B.U. freshman Erik Evjen (Askim, Norway), who scored his first collegiate goal on Friday night, opened the scoring on Sunday when he beat Quinnipiac goalkeeper Kevin Kelly just 16:33 into the match.
After the Braves tied the game at 18:23 on a goal by Alex de Fauci, the Terriers countered with single goals by sophomore Andrew Dorman (Flintshire, Wales) and Kaland.
Dorman, who had two goals and two assists on Friday night, scored an unassisted goal at 23:29 vs. Quinnipiac. Then, at 47:55, Kaland, with an assist to Dorman, dribbled past the defender to score what proved to be the game-winning goal.
Quinnipiac cut the deficit to just one goal at 81:02 when Everson Macul beat Terrier junior Matt Smith (Lanchester, England) on a penalty kick.
Kaland scored his second goal of the game at 81:41 when he converted on a pass from senior Mark Lowyns (Scotch Plains, NJ). Smith, who did not make any saves, earned the win in the Terrier goal.
