Terriers Tie Catamounts In America East Opener, 4-4

Burlington, Vt. - Junior back Erik Evjen (Askim, Norway) scored the game-tying goal with eight seconds remaining in regulation and the Terrier men's soccer team held on for a 4-4 double overtime tie with America East rival Vermont at Centennial Field on Saturday, Oct. 4.
Trailing 4-1 with 15 minutes left to play, B.U. (5-5-1, 0-0-1)scored three unanswered goals and held on for the tie in the conference opener for both teams.
Matt Chavez scored two of his game- and career-high four goals for Vermont (1-5-4, 0-0-1) in the first half, giving the Catamounts a 2-0 lead at the break.
Chavez extended the lead with a goal off a feed from Danny Broughan at 53:50.
Senior midfielder Andrew Dorman (Flintshire, Wales) scored his first goal of the season at 67:56, narrowing the gap to 3-1.
One goal short of the program-record, Chavez scored his fourth goal of the game at 70:22.
Senior forward Alan McNamara (Woodview Raheem, Ireland) cut the deficit to 4-2 off a feed from junior midfielder Federico Bianchi (Pacific Palisades, CA) at 76:14.
With less than three minutes to play and trailing by two goals, freshman forward Anders Ostli (Fredrickstead, Norway) scored off a feed from Dorman and Evjen scored two minutes later to knot the score at 4-4.
The Terriers out shot the Catamounts, 7-5, in the two overtime periods but could not break the draw.
Sophomore goalkeeper Chad Comroe (Dallas, TX) made eight saves in the tie. With a 5-1-1 record this season, Comroe extended his unbeaten streak to six games.
David Sullivan made a career-high 11 saves for the Catamounts.
B.U. next takes on America East rival New Hampshire at home on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 7:00 p.m.
