Johnson's Game-Winner Pushes Terriers Past Catamounts, 3-2

BOSTON - Junior midfielder Jamie Johnson (Brisbane, Australia) scored the game-winning goal with 64 seconds remaining in regulation to give the B.U. men's soccer team a 3-2 victory over conference rival Vermont at Nickerson Field on Saturday, Oct. 16.
B.U. (5-6-1, 3-1-1) built a 2-0 first-half lead before Vermont (7-5-2, 2-3-0) battled back to tie the game in the 75th minute of play.
Freshman forward Roland Erlichman (Paradise Valley, AZ) put B.U. on the scoreboard first, netting his team-leading fifth goal of the season off an assist by junior forward Sedrick Chin (St. Mary, Jamaica) at 28:23.
Johnson looked to bolster the lead later in the half, launching a corner kick from the left side into the far right of the box in the 35th minute. Senior forward Brian Conway (Northville, MI) headed the ball into the center where sophomore back Steven Gahl (Kensington, MD) fired a diving header into the net at 34:35.
Vermont's Scott Webb narrowed the gap to 2-1, placing a shot into the far right corner of the goal off a feed from Tony Anderson at 64:22. Webb then returned the favor, beating his defender and sending a pass to Anderson who scored at 74:17.
In the 89th minute, the Catamounts were whistled for a foul 35 yards out. Senior midfielder Federico Bianchi (Pacific Palisades, CA) made a touch on the free kick to put the ball in play. Johnson then rifled the ball into the far right corner of the goal at 88:56.
Sophomore goalkeeper Zach Riffett (Brenham, TX) made one save in the victory. Vermont's David Sullivan stopped five shots for the Catamounts.
B.U. held a 12-6 advantage in shots while Vermont had a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
The Terriers next face cross-town rival Northeastern at Parson's Field on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 3:00 p.m.
