BOSTON - Senior midfielder Federico Bianchi (Pacific Palisades, CA) scored two goals to lead top-seeded Boston University to a 2-0 victory over fifth-seeded Stony Brook in an America East semifinal game at Nickerson Field on Wednesday, Nov. 10.
With the win, the Terriers advance to the America East Championship title game for the first time in seven years as they will host third-seeded Binghamton on Sunday, Nov. 14, at 1:00 p.m. Binghamton, the defending conference champion, defeated Albany, 3-1, in the other semifinal game played today to advance to the title game for the second-straight year. Boston U. will aim for its sixth conference title and first since 1997.
To open the Terriers' scoring, senior midfielder Brian Conway (Northville, MI) slipped a pass in the top of the box to his classmate Bianchi in the 20th minute. Bianchi fired a shot into the top right corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season at 19:21.
A communication lapse in the 68th minute between Stony Brook goalkeeper John Moschella and one of his defenders sent the ball loose in the scoring box. Bianchi launched the ball into the lower right corner of the net for an insurance goal at 67:14.
Sophomore goalkeeper Chad Comroe (Dallas, TX) extended his scoreless steak to 459:43 minutes, posting his fifth consecutive shutout. Comroe made three saves for his seventh shutout of the season. Moschella made a game-high four saves for the Seawolves.
The winner of the 2004 America East Championship final on Sunday between Binghamton and Boston U. will earn the league's automatic bid to the 2004 NCAA College Cup.
