BOSTON - After leading the Terriers to a pair of upset wins last week, senior back Erik Evjen (Askim, Norway) was named the America East Player of the Week on Sept. 27.
Evjen scored the game-winning goal in the Terriers' 2-0 shutout victory over No. 20 Binghamton on Sept. 25 and anchored the defense in B.U.'s 3-2 overtime win against No. 24 Rhode Island on Sept. 22.
Against the Bearcats, Evjen scored the game-winner in the 49th minute of play off a corner kick from junior midfielder Jamie Johnson (Brisbane, Australia). With the goal, he raised his season point total to five with two goals and an assist in the first six games.
After playing at the forward position in the Terriers' first four games, Evjen was shifted back to the defense against the Rams to replace the injured Zach Kirby (Marietta, GA). The B.U. defense held URI to two goals off eight shots in the team's first win of the season.
A two-time All-Conference Second Team selection, Evjen has raised his career scoring total this season to 20 points off eight goals and four assists in 57 career games.
Boston University (2-4-0, 1-0-0) plays two important home games this week as it hosts regional-rival Massachusetts on Wednesday, Sept. 28, and conference foe Hartford on Saturday, Oct. 2.
