October 1, 2005 | Men's Soccer
BOSTON - Looking to stretch its three-game unbeaten streak, the Boston University men???s soccer team (3-4-1 overall, 0-0-1 America East) will host the University at Buffalo (9-1-0 overall, 0-0-0 MAC) for a non-conference game at Nickerson Field on Sunday (Oct. 2) at 4:00 p.m. It marks the first meeting between the two teams. The Terriers are coming off a 3-1 win at Massachusetts on Wednesday (Sept. 28), while the Bulls posted a 2-1 win versus Canisius on Friday (Sept. 30).
Senior Sedrick Chin (St. Mary, Jamaica) logged his second three-point effort of the season to pace the Terrier offense in Wednesday???s (Sept. 28) 3-1 victory over Massachusetts. It was the third time in any many games that the Terriers were unbeaten, after an America East-opening 1-1 tie versus Maine on Sept. 24 and a 2-1 win at Rhode Island on Sept. 20. Prior to that, the Terriers had fallen by identical 1-0 tallies in three of their previous four games, and faced three top-20 opponents in then No. 15 Boston College, No. 17 Notre Dame and No. 1 Indiana.
The Bulls started off the season with a 8-0-0 record before suffering their first loss on Sept. 25 to St. Francis (Pa.) by a 1-0 count, but came back to beat Canisius on Friday (Sept. 30). As of Sept. 25, the team was ranked ninth in the nation in goals-per-game (3.22) with 29 goals in nine games. Currently UB has 31 goals in 10 games. Andrae Clark, who was ranked fifth in the nation in assists-per-game (0.89), leads the Bulls with 20 points (5 goals, 10 assists). Lee Catchpole sits just behind Clark, with 19 points on eight goals and three assists.
Chin holds the club lead in scoring with two goals and three assists for seven points in eight games, while freshman Neil Hlavaty (Lombard, Ill.) is close behind with six points (2-2). Chin and Hlavaty are two of seven Terriers to start all eight games thus far, with Hlavaty being the only rookie to do so. Further, the duo has joined forces to score in all three of BU???s wins: Hlavaty netted the overtime game-winner off Chin versus New Jersey Institute of Technology on Sept. 1, Chin tallied the game-winner off Hlavaty at Rhode Island on Sept. 20 and Hlavaty assisted Chin once again to open scoring in the fourth minute at Massachusetts on Sept. 28.
The game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. at Nickerson Field.
