BOSTON - After posting a program-best 18-2 record and reaching the NCAA Quarterfinals, six members of the B.U. women's lacrosse team were named North All-Region honorees as announced on Thursday, May 19.
Senior goalkeeper Anne Sheridan (Baltimore, MD), senior midfielder Alyssa Trudel (Shoreham, VT), junior midfielder Lindsay Lewis (Glenelg, MD) and freshman attacker Jenny Hauser (Alexandria, VA) represented the largest B.U. contingent in program history to be named to the North All-Region First Team. Junior attacker Mary Beth Miller (Berlin, NJ) and junior defender Danica Strutt (Baltimore, MD) were named to the North All-Region Second Team.
In 2005, the Terriers set program records for consecutive wins (14) and total wins (18) while scoring the most goals (273) in a single season. B.U. captured both the America East regular-season and tournament titles, recording a perfect 8-0 record against conference opponents. The Terriers went undefeated (13-0) at home, earning their first-ever NCAA Tournament win with a 12-6 first-round victory over Colgate at Nickerson Field on May 12. The Terriers were also 4-1 against Top 20 opponents with wins over No. 2 Dartmouth, No. 4 Georgetown, No. 7 Hofstra, and No. 11 Loyola. B.U.'s only loss came in a 13-9 decision to sixth-ranked Virginia in the NCAA Quarterfinals on May 15.
Sheridan capped off her career with a dominant season between the pipes, ranking second in the nation in save percentage (.573) and third in goals against average (7.15). She recorded 176 saves, one shy of the tying the program's single-season record, and had double-digit save totals in 10-of-18 games. Selected as the America East Player of the Year, Sheridan wrapped up her career ranked second in B.U. history in both saves (486) and goals against average (7.79). She receives the second regional recognition of her career as she was also named to the North All-Region First Team as a sophomore in 2003.
Pacing the midfield, Trudel led B.U. in draw controls (46), ground balls (42), and caused turnovers (34) during her senior campaign. A talented attacker, Trudel also ranked third on the team in scoring with 43 goals and 20 assists for 63 points. Rising to the occasion in the most pivotal games, Trudel totaled a game-high five points in B.U.'s 10-8 upset win over No. 4 Georgetown and had a game-high seven points in the Terriers' 16-6 win over New Hampshire in the America East title game. A three-time First Team All-Conference selection, Trudel ends her career as B.U.'s all-time leader in assists (95) and draw controls (142) while ranking second in points (238) and third in goals (143). Trudel was also a First Team All-North Region selection in 2003.
Lewis continued her torrid pace on the attack during her junior campaign, totaling 43 goals and 10 assists. After missing the first two games of the season with a hip injury, Lewis tallied at least one point in every game except her first game back in the lineup against Hofstra. Lewis had 11 multiple-goal games and scored four game-winning goals. In just three seasons, she ranks fourth in B.U. history in career goals (133) and points (171). Lewis has been named to an North All-Region Team in each of her first three seasons as she was a Second Team pick as a freshman and a First Team honoree in each of the last two seasons.
Hauser enjoyed the most prolific season for a first-year player in B.U. history, leading the Terriers in both goals (54) and points (70) while ranking fourth in assists (16). Her 54 goals rank as the second-highest single-season total in program history while her 70 points are the fourth-highest total. A six-time America East Rookie of the Week, Hauser was selected to the America East All-Conference First Team, All-Rookie Team, and was named America East Rookie of the Year. Miller and Strutt receive the first regional accolades of their careers. The duo have appeared in 76 consecutive games dating back to their first games as freshmen in 2003. During the three seasons, B.U. has posted a 41-17 record, won two America East titles, and twice reached the NCAA Tournament.
As the Terriers' top playmaker, Miller led B.U. and ranked 19th in the nation in assists with 32. She also scored 32 goals and was the Terriers' second-leading scorer with 64 points. A two-time First Team All-Conference selection, Miller ranks seventh on B.U.'s all-time scoring list with 162 points.
Strutt emerged as B.U.'s top markdown defender in 2005, anchoring a defense which ranked third in the nation in goals allowed (6.93). A three-time All-Conference honoree, Strutt finished the season ranked second on the team in caused turnovers with 27.
The All-American teams will be announced during the NCAA Final Four on May 20-22. Five players in B.U. program history have earned All-American status including Trudel, who was named to the All-America Second Team in 2003.
