Men's Soccer Set To Take On Brown
September 15, 2005 | Men's Soccer
BOSTON - The Boston University men???s soccer team (1-3-0) will look to get back in the win column as it takes on Brown (2-2-0) in a non-conference match in Providence, R.I., on Friday (Sept. 16) at 7:00 p.m. Continuing on their longest road stretch of the season, which took them to Notre Dame, Ind., for two games in the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament last weekend, the Terriers will face the Bears in their third-of-four consecutive games away from BU???s Nickerson Field.
Since opening the season with a 3-2 overtime win over the New Jersey Institute of Technology, the Terriers have faced three top-20 teams in then No. 15 Boston College, No. 17 Notre Dame and No. 1 Indiana. Posting tightly contested matches against BC and Notre Dame, BU came up slightly short each time, with 1-0 decisions on both occasions. Plagued with injury for the Sept. 11 contest with back-to-back defending national champion Indiana, the Terriers could not overcome the nearly impenetrable Hoosier defense that has allowed just one goal in four games and fell to 1-3-0 on the season.
Brown is 2-2-0 after splitting games at the both the UConn/adidas Tournament and its own adidas-Brown Classic. The Bears??? wins came over St. Peter???s and George Mason, with losses to Hartwick and #24 UNC-Greensboro. Sophomore forward Kevin Davies leads Brown with five points (2 goals, 1 assist), while junior back Matt Britner is the reigning Ivy League Player of the Week for his defensive efforts in the adidas-Brown Classic.
BU senior midfielder Sedrick Chin and sophomore forward Roland Erlichman both scored for the Terriers in last season???s 2-0 shutout of the Bears at Nickerson Field. While Brown holds a 13-15-2 all-time advantage over BU, the Terriers have won the last three outings (1996, 2003 and 2004), each by a 2-0 count, and are unbeaten in 10 of the last 14 matches between the two teams.
Senior captain Jamie Johnson currently leads the Terriers with five points (2 goals, 1 assist), despite missing both of last weekend???s games with a minor leg injury. He is expected back in the line-up vs. Brown. Also returning from a groin injury will be junior back Zach Kirby, who was sidelined for the Indiana game on Sept. 11. Two of the top recruits, forward Petur Sigurdsson and back Zach Bauer, remain out with injuries.
The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Brown???s Stevenson Field.
