Men's Soccer Falls To Brown
September 16, 2005 | Men's Soccer
PROVIDENCE, R.I. ??? The Boston University men???s soccer team fell to Brown, 1-0, in a non-conference match at Stevenson Field on Sept. 16. The Bears improved to 3-2-0 on the season, while the Terriers now stand at 1-4-0. Terrier goalkeeper junior captain Chad Comroe made a season-high seven saves in his second start of the year.
Backed by a defensive core that has only allowed four goals in five games, Brown ended a three-game win streak the Terriers held over the Bears, with BU posting 2-0 wins in the teams??? previous three meetings.
It is the third time in the last four games that the Terrier soccer team has lost by a goal as the BU offense has not produced a goal since the season-opening 3-2 win over New Jersey Institute of Technology.
???We???ve just got to find a way to score some goals with the players we have on the field,??? said BU Head Coach Neil Roberts, referring to the fact that some key players have been out with injuries, such as senior captain Jamie Johnson, who has sat the last three games with a leg injury. ???We???ve been close, but not close enough. We???re capable of winning, it???s just a matter of playing a little better and scoring some goals.???
Brown scored the only goal it would need in the 56th minute when a shot by Darren Howerton hit the post and bounced to Scott Geppert, who put it in for the 1-0 lead at 55:02.
Terrier frustration mounted throughout the game, as senior Sedrick Chin and juniors Zach Kirby and Steven Gahl each acquired a yellow card in the first half.
???We???re working hard and things just aren???t going our way so we???re getting a little frustrated,??? said Roberts.
BU was out shot 18-5 on the evening, with a 5-1 Brown advantage in corner kicks.
The Terriers will hope to turn things around on Tuesday (Sept. 20), as they take on Rhode Island in Providence at 7:00 p.m.
