October 10, 2006 | Men's Soccer
BOSTON - The Boston University men's soccer team (6-3-4, 1-2-1 America East) will play host to the Catamounts of the University of Vermont (7-3-4, 4-0-1 AE) on Wednesday evening to kick off a three-game homestand, which will also include contests against Albany and Hartford.
This homestand will start to close out BU's regular season with the Terriers' last game before the America East Tournament coming on the road in Orono, Maine, against the Black Bears.
BU is in the midst of a rough patch after going 0-2 on the road last week. Sophomore Jin Oh (Dededo, Guam) scored BU's lone goal of the contest with New Hampshire in the 50th minute on a header into the right corner of the net as BU fell 2-1 to UNH on Wednesday, Oct. 4. That marked just the second loss of the season for the Terriers.
On Sunday, Oct. 8, a free kick from Stony Brook's Oscar Leis sealed the win over BU for the Seawolves. Leis sent a 25-yard free kick sailing just under the cross bar past a diving Zach Riffett (Brenham, Tex.) . BU held a narrow 4-3 advantage on corner kicks, but was out-shot 17-13.
BU, which was ranked 25th last week, is 11th in the country in save percentage (.857) and 13th in team goals against average (0.640).
Sophomore Petur Sigurdsson (Hafnarfjordur, Iceland) continues to lead the Terriers offensively with four goals and one assist for nine points. Sophomores Neil Hlavaty (Lombard, Ill.), Dan Schultz (Cincinnati, Ohio), Oh, and freshman Samuel Appiah (Obuasi, Ghana) each follow Sigurdsson with two goals apiece.
Riffett, who is second in the America East in GAA (0.690) and third in the conference in save percentage (0.833), ranks 21st and 24th in the nation in those same categories, respectively.
Vermont comes into tomorrow's contest perfect in conference play, with wins against UNH, Stony Brook, Albany and Hartford. The Catamounts' only blemish on their conference record is a 1-1 tie with UMBC.
The Cats are led by a pair of forwards, sophomore Jordan Crasilneck and junior Tyler Hasman. Crasilneck has tallied five goals and one assist for 11 points. He also has one game-winner and is one-for-one on penalty kicks. Hasman has four goals and three assists and has also recorded one game-winner.
Junior goalkeeper Roger Scully has primarily backstopped UVM. Scully has played 1130:10 in 12 games and owns a 0.72 GAA, a save percentage of .850 and a record of 6-3-3. Scully ranks 16th in the country in save percentage and 24th in GAA.
