BOSTON - Despite constant offensive pressure throughout the game, the Boston University (7-4-4, 2-3-1 America East) men's soccer team fell 1-0 to the University at Albany (7-6-2, 5-2-0 AE) on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field after the Great Danes scored an unlikely game-winner with 2:58 remaining in overtime.
After playing a scoreless regulation, Albany began the overtime period pressuring BU, spending much of the first three minutes in the Terrier defensive end. Boston U cleared the ball and the two teams played back and forth until 96:29 when Terrier sophomore Jin Oh (Dededo, Guam) nearly became an overtime hero for BU for the second straight game. His shot was just inches wide and it hit the upper left post.
On Wednesday, Oh scored the game-winning goal against Vermont to complete a comeback win and hand the Catamounts their first America East loss.
Albany cleared it out, and Brad Ray took the ball down the center lane of the field. He passed over to Joe Hogan toward the right side of the field. Hogan's shot slipped through the BU defensive line and a surprised Zach Riffett (Brenham, Tex.) for the game-winner.
BU spent most of regulation in the Great Danes' end of the field but was unable to finish any offensive opportunities. Albany did make one sustained drive in Boston University's defensive zone in the middle of the first half but came away empty handed when senior Jarryd Goldberg (Basking Ridge, N.J.) cleared the ball at the 22:00 mark.
Riffett played the entire 97:02 and made three saves on Albany's five shots. The Terriers out-shot the Great Danes 9-5 and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
BU plays one more game at home, on Wednesday, Oct. 18, against Hartford at 7:00 p.m. The Terriers will honor their four seniors in a pre-game ceremony.
