Women's Soccer Goes Undefeated in Spring Beanpot
April 10, 2006 | Women's Soccer
The Boston University women’s soccer team hosted the spring soccer Beanpot Saturday afternoon and went 1-0-2 against its fellow Boston institutions. The Terriers played to a draw against Northeastern (0-0) and Boston College (1-1), while defeating Harvard (3-0). The games were played at Nickerson Field on the BU campus. Each match was 50 minutes in duration, and the tournament allowed the Terrier coaching staff to see different combinations on the field and get some varsity experience for some of the team’s younger players.
In the tie against Northeastern, junior Stephanie Dreyer and redshirt freshman Lauren Stewart split time in goal and held the Huskies scoreless throughout. In the tie against Boston College, freshman Jennifer Herman scored the lone BU goal, while Dreyer played the entire game between the pipes, allowing one goal. Against Harvard, BU’s offense was generated by goals from freshman Shannon Mullen, junior Lauren Erwin and graduating senior Susan Marschall. Stewart and Dreyer split time in goal to record the shutout.
“We had a successful day, winning a game and drawing two,” said BU head coach Nancy Feldman. “We had a formidable front line led by Lauren Basham, Mara Osher, Jen Herman and Lauren Erwin up front against Harvard. The whole team did a great job.”
BU continues its spring schedule next week when the Terriers host Brown on Apr. 19 at Nickerson Field. Game time is 7 p.m.
