BOSTON – Boston University men’s soccer standout Jamie Johnson (Brisbane, Australia) signed a one-year contract to play professionally with the Brisbane Strikers Football Club, a feeder for the Queensland Roar FC of Australia’s A-League. He will join his hometown team this month upon graduating from BU after spending four years on the Terrier soccer team.
Besides playing for the Strikers of Australia’s Division I, Johnson was drafted by the Queensland Roar squad, which is one of eight clubs in the country’s premier league.
Although Johnson was plagued by injury as a senior tri-captain in 2005 and therefore only saw action in two early games, he still placed fourth on the team in scoring with a pair of goals and an assist for five points. In his four-year career, he totaled 13 goals and 16 assists for 42 points, while twice being named to the All-Conference Team and ranking 16th in the nation with nine assists in 2004.
He joins recent graduates Federico Bianchi (’04) and Andy Dorman (’03), who are both currently playing professionally since leaving the Terrier squad. Bianchi just began his first season for the Long Island Rough Riders of the United Soccer Leagues’ Second Division after playing for the FC Dallas Reserves in 2005 and attending training camp with Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids. Meanwhile, Dorman enters his third season on MLS’ New England Revolution.
