
Terriers Welcome Northeastern on Monday

BOSTON - Hosting its second game in three days, the Boston University women's basketball team welcomes cross-town rival Northeastern on Monday, Nov. 17 for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off. The contest is the first in a doubleheader with the men's team, which faces off with the Huskies at 8:00 p.m. BU leads the all-time series, 35-30, including last year's 93-79 victory at Matthews Arena.
THE TERRIERS: BU is coming off a strong showing against No. 16 Ohio State on Saturday evening. Senior Cheri Raffo posted a career-high 23 points on 7-for-15 shooting - five field goals from 3-point range. Also posting double figures were junior Jesyka Burks-Wiley (16 points), senior Kasey Devine (11 points) and junior Amarachi Umez-Eronini (10 points).
Four Terriers are currently averaging double digits for the season, as Burks-Wiley leads with 14.7 ppg, followed closely by Devine (14.3 ppg) and junior Christine Kinneary and Raffo with 11.3 ppg each.
BU continues to be solid from the free-throw line, shooting 86.4 percent (51-for-59), with three athletes perfect from the charity stripe. Aly Hinton (10-for-10), Burks-Wiley (6-for-6) and Raffo (4-for-4) have hit all their attempts.
The Terriers have shot .462 from the field (73-for-158).
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES: The Huskies enter Monday's contest with a 2-1 record and are coming off an 86-81 victory over UMass. Ashlee Feldman led Northeastern with 21 points, while Kendra Walton was the team's leading rebounder with 12 boards.
Northeastern features four athletes averaging double figures, led by Feldman with 15.0 ppg. Lucia Pablos averages 14.7 ppg, followed by Walton (11.7 ppg) and Shalyse Smallwood (11.3 ppg).
The Huskies' other win this season came against Coppin State, 69-65, in the season opener. They lost to Texas Tech, 82-51, on Nov. 11 and rebounded versus UMass.
BU VS. NORTHEASTERN: BU owns a 35-30 advantage over Northeastern in the all-time series. The Terriers have won 11 of the last 13 meetings, including a commanding 93-79 victory last season.
Northeastern was a long-time member of the America East, but in 2005-06 the Huskies joined the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
In 2005, head coach Kelly Greenberg earned her 100th career victory as a head coach against the Huskies.
LAST TIME OUT VS. NORTHEASTERN (Nov. 21, 2006): BU extended its season-opening win streak to three games with a 93-79 victory over cross-town rival NU at the Huskies' Matthews Arena.
Cheri Raffo continued to shine on the offensive front tallying a career-high 21 points. Katie Meinhardt led all scorers with 26 points and went 11-for-12 from the free-throw line, while Erica Kovach recorded a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds - a career-high. Aly Hinton also scored in double digits with 13 points.
The Terriers posted 30 points from the charity stripe and shot .556 from the field.
BU VS. THE CAA: The Terriers are 68-90 all-time against the Colonial Athletic Association. While the Terriers are 35-30 all-time against Northeastern, they have only played them twice since the Huskies joined the conference. Under head coach Kelly Greenberg, BU is 3-2 against the conference.

NEXT TIME OUT: Boston University will hit the road, beginning with a trip to Greensboro, N.C., on Friday, Nov. 23 for the UNC-Greensboro tournament. BU will face the Spartans at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, and the either UNC-Asheville or North Carolina A&T on Saturday, Nov. 24.
IT'S A LONG DECEMBER: Beginning with its Dec. 1 contest at St. John's, Boston University will spend the entire month of December on the road. The game against the Red Storm will kick off a six-game road stretch that culminates with a Dec. 30 contest at Kansas. BU will also take part in the Virginia Commonwealth University tournament in Richmond, Va., from Dec. 27-28, along with host VCU, Morgan State and Georgia Southern. In addition to those games, BU will face Brown on Dec. 5 and Harvard on Dec. 11.
COUNTDOWN TO 1,000: Cheri Raffo is currently 172 points away from reach the 1,000-point plateau. If she keeps her scoring average at 11.3 ppg, she could reach the milestone at the beginning of the conference season.
BATTLE OF THE BOARDS: The Terriers were 7-8 last season in games when they were out-rebounded. This season they have out-rebounded Siena and Rhode Island - both wins - but lost the battle of the boards to 16th-ranked Ohio State in an 83-68 loss.
SIMPLY DEVINE: Kasey Devine opened her senior campaign on a strong note, posting three consecutive double-figure scoring games. She got things started with a career-high 18 points at Siena and a 14-point performance versus Rhode Island, followed most recently by 11 points versus Ohio State. Devine has been an impressive 13-for-15 from the free-throw line this season and ranks seventh in the BU annals for FT percentage.
BURKS-WILEY BRINGS IT: Jesyka Burks-Wiley has made the most of her time on the court this season, leading the team in points per game (14.7) and rebounds per game (7.0). In all three contests, she has posted double figures - 18 at Siena, 10 points versus Rhode Island and 16 versus No. 16 Ohio State.
