
Women's Basketball Hosts Massachusetts on Wednesday

BOSTON - The Boston University women's basketball team (4-2) returns to Case Gym to host Atlantic 10 foe Massachusetts (2-3) on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 7:00 p.m. After a 14-year hiatus, the Terriers and Minutewomen will be reviving a rivalry that spanned 26 years and 19 contests from 1977 to 1993. UMass holds the slight edge in the all-time series record, 10-9.
THE TERRIERS: BU returns home after going 1-1 at the UNC Greensboro tournament from Nov. 23-24. The Terriers took down host UNCG on the opening day, 69-42, and fell to North Carolina A&T, 62-54, in the championship game.
Jesyka Burks-Wiley and Christine Kinneary were named to the all-tournament team. Burks-Wiley posted 19 points against UNCG - 15 in the second half, while Kinneary dished out nine assists against the host.
On the second day of the tourney, BU fell to NCAT in the championship, despite a second-half rally that erased a 16-point deficit to just three. The Aggies hit 10 free throws, however, in the final three minutes to pull ahead for good, 62-54.
The Terriers have four players averaging double figures - Kasey Devine (13.7 ppg), Jesyka Burks-Wiley (13.3 ppg), Aly Hinton (10.8 ppg) and Cheri Raffo (10.5) ppg. Burks-Wiley is also the team leader in rebounding with 4.7 rpg. Christine Kinneary leads the America East in assists per game with 7.33. Hinton has been an impressive 22-for-23 (.957) from the free-throw line.
SCOUTING THE MINUTEWOMEN: UMass (2-3) enters Wednesday's contest on a three-game skid, after dropping both of its games at the East Carolina Lady Pirate Invitational. Prior to the tourney, the Minutewomen fell to Northeastern and won its first two games against Boston College and Vermont.
Kate Mills, the A-10 Player of the Week last week, leads the squad with 18.2 points per game, and Pam Rosanio is close behind with 16.2 per game. Rosanio and Teya Wright lead the team in rebounding with 5.2 rpg. Mills has also swatted an imposing 12 blocks in five games.
BU VS. UMASS: The Terriers and Minutewomen enjoyed a rivalry that spanned 26 years and 19 contests, before taking a 14-year hiatus after the 1992-93 season.
The Minutewomen hold the slight 10-9 advantage in the all-time series record, however, BU won four of the last six meetings. The last contest between BU and UMass occurred on March 2, 1993 in a 63-56 UMass victory in Amherst, Mass.
BU VS. THE A-10: BU is 25-26 (.490) against Atlantic 10 schools. It owns winning records against Dayton (1-0), Fordham (3-1), George Washington (1-0), Rhode Island (7-6) and Temple (2-1).
Earlier this season, BU defeated A-10 foe Rhode Island, 77-56, in the Terriers' home opener.
Last season, BU faced two A-10 opponents when it matched up with URI in the season opener and Dayton in the Dartmouth tournament on Dec. 29.
Under head coach Kelly Greenberg, BU is 3-2 against the conference.

RAFFO ONLY TERRIER TO START EVERY GAME: Cheri Raffo has started 97 consecutive contests - every game of her collegiate career. If she starts in every scheduled game this season, she will become the only Terrier in program history to get the nod in every BU contest in a four-year span.
Also, if she appears in every game and at least one postseason contest, she will surpass BU's career games played mark held by former teammates Adrienne Norris and Larissa Parr.
NEXT TIME OUT: BU will travel to St. John's for the first of its month-long road stretch, which spans six games. Tip off is set for 2:00 p.m.
