Terriers Defeat Syracuse, 122-119; Men Fall, 130-111

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Boston University women's swimming and diving team defeated Syracuse on Saturday afternoon, 122-119, while the men's squad dropped its first dual meet of the season to the Orange, 130-111.
Christina Ruggiero continued to dominate the distant races with a victory in the 1,000-free with a time of ten minutes, 29.29 seconds. Clara Van Allen also provided the Terriers with a third-place finish in the event (10:53.63). Eve Kinsella came in a close second to Syracuse's Natalie Mazzetta in the 200 free, touching the wall in 1:52.93. Despite not taking first place, Maria McIntyre, Emily Munday and Kirsten Tullis picked up valuable points in the 50 free with second-, third- and fourth-place finishes.
Brigette O'Shaughnessy claimed victory in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.82. Sarah Doersam and Ruggiero finished third and fifth, respectively, in the event. O'Shaughnessy later won her second event of the afternoon with a win in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.89).
In the diving events Tess Waresmith, Alex Crerar and Sarah Colton swept the top three spots on the one-meter board with scores of 267.53, 204.36 and 186.67. The trio also swept the three-meter board. On the men's side, Andre Watson and Tanner Knorr went 1-2 on the one- and three-meter boards.
For the men, Tyson Slesnick, Kyle Ernst and Ben Kaiser took second, third and fourth, respectively, in the 1000 free. Arik Seiler followed up with the Terriers' first victory of the day with a winning time of 1:44.09 in the 200 free. Matt Rickett won BU's second consecutive victory in the 50 free (22.07).
Mark Nakanishi won the 200 fly with a time of 1:56.58, nearly a second faster than his closest competition.
Next up for the Terriers is their annual BU Invitational from Nov. 17-19.
