BOSTON - The Boston University women's basketball team (5-3) will travel to Providence, R.I., on Wednesday evening to face off with Brown (1-8) at the Bears' Pizzitola Sports Center at 7:00 p.m. BU leads the all-time series, 7-6, and has won the past two meetings, including a thrilling 60-59 victory at Agganis Arena in 2006-07 when Katie Meinhardt hit a shot with two seconds remaining in regulation.
THE TERRIERS: Jesyka Burks-Wiley earned America East Player of the Week honors, after posting back-to-back double-doubles last week against Massachusetts and St. John's. Burks-Wiley began the week with a 20-point, 10-rebound performance against the Minutewomen and completed her prolific two-game stretch with a career-high 21 points to go along with a game-best 12 rebounds. Burks-Wiley leads the squad with 15.1 ppg and 7.9 rpg.
Also recording double-figure averages this season are Kasey Devine and Cheri Raffo with 12.4 and 11.3 ppg, respectively.
Christine Kinneary leads the conference in assists per game (7.1) and is 11th in the nation in the category. Also making an appearance in the national ranks is Aly Hinton, who is ninth in free-throw percentage (.960).
As a team, BU's .825 free-throw percentage ranks fourth nationally, and it owns the sixth lowest turnovers per game average with 13.6. The Terriers have recorded a 1.12 assist/turnover ratio - good for eighth in the nation.
SCOUTING THE BEARS: Brown enters Wednesday's match up with a 1-8 overall record. The Bears opened their season on a seven-game slide, but picked up their first win against Howard, 65-61, on Dec. 1. A day later, Brown dropped a 65-54 decision to St. Joseph's on Dec. 2.
Shae Fitzpatrick - the team's leading scorer with 8.4 ppg - has led the offense in four out of eight games, however, the sophomore guard has not recorded double-figuring scoring since Nov. 18. Sadiea Williams is the team's leading rebounder with 5.8 per game.
BU VS. BROWN: Brown leads the all-time series by a slim 7-6 advantage, however, BU has claimed back-to-back contests (2005, 2006). Prior to that, the Bears won four straight - spanning from 1996 to 1998.
The Terriers opened the series with three consecutive wins before trading victories with the Bears in the early 1990s. Following a 1998 79-67 BU loss at Case Gym, the Terriers and Bears took a seven-year hiatus from the rivalry and revisited the series in 2005 in Providence, where the Terriers won 73-59.
BU VS. THE IVY LEAGUE: The Terriers own a 41-14 advantage over Ivy League opponents all-time.
Brown 6-7
Columbia 1-0
Cornell 0-0
Dartmouth 13-6
Harvard 12-10
Penn 0-0
Princeton 0-0
Yale 9-1
NEXT TIME OUT: BU will face its second Ivy League opponent in as many games when it travels cross town to Harvard for a 7:00 p.m. contest in Allston, Mass.
