INDIANAPOLIS - Senior Cara Hendry has been selected to represent the Boston University women’s ice hockey team in the 2007 Pontiac Super Skills Challenge held on April 6 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. The event features 32 men and women Division I and III college hockey players divided up into East and West squads to compete in six events.
Each team will have six male position players, six female position players, two male goaltenders and two female goaltenders. To be eligible, all players must have exhausted their collegiate eligibility and be nominated by their head coach. The 32 final athletes were selected by representatives from the American Hockey Coaches Association, the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Committee and the National Youth Sports Corporation.
Hendry transferred to BU after two seasons at Minnesota State to help build the new program. She has spent the past two years captaining the young squad, helping the team finish above .500 in every category during their sophomore outing. During her two years at BU, the Calgary, Alta., native has tallied 45 points (18 goals, 27 assists), highlighted by a game-winning goal on Jan. 19, 2007, edging the Terriers over then No.8-Boston College for the first time. The Terriers ended the season with an overall record of 19-12-3 and 10-9-2 in conference play.
“Cara has had the distinction of being our inaugural captain and on-ice leader over the past two seasons,” said head coach Brian Durocher. “Her passion for the game and gritty style of play is highly visible to anyone who has watched her. She thrives on doing the little things such as competing in the corners and blocking shots game in and game out. Her solid offensive contributions at all three forward positions have made her a valuable asset to our program. Cara’s on-ice work ethic has helped set a high standard for what is expected of a Boston University ice hockey player.”
