BOSTON - Boston University's Dan Schultz has been selected to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Men's Soccer Academic All-America University Division third team for his excellence in the classroom and on the soccer field. The senior captain was also placed on the America East's 11-man All-Academic squad.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Schultz became the first Terrier since Ola Olsen in 1994 to receive national academic honors. Majoring in economics, the defender has played a critical role in the Terriers' success this season, anchoring a backline that has helped shut out nine opponents and allow just three goals during BU's nine-game unbeaten streak.
The 2008 AE regular season and conference tournament champion Terriers (11-5-3) are back in action at Nickerson Field against Northeast Conference champion Fairleigh Dickinson (13-5-2) on Friday (Nov. 22) at 5 p.m.
To be eligible for the national team, a student athlete had to have been selected to its District's first team. Initial nomination criteria at the District level includes being a varsity starter or key reserve, maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, reaching sophomore athletic and academic standing at his current institution and be nominated by their sports information director.
