BOSTON -The Boston University women's basketball team (2-2) will look to snap a two-game skid on Tuesday evening when it makes the short trek to Matthews Arena to take on cross-town foe Northeastern (0-3) at 5 p.m. The Terriers currently own a three-game winning streak over the Huskies and hold a 36-30 advantage in the 32-year rivalry. The game is a first in a doubleheader with the men's teams, which will tip-off at 8 p.m.
THE TERRIERS: After opening its season with back-to-back wins, BU suffered a setback this past weekend, dropping both of its games in the 23rd annual KCRG-TV9 Hawkeye Challenge. The Terriers opened with an 83-58 loss to the Big Ten's Iowa before dropping a 74-62 decision to Portland on day two. Senior Christine Kinneary put in a valiant effort at the tourney, earning all-tournament team honors for averaging 12.5 ppg, dishing out 10 assists and earning seven steals in two games.
For the season, senior Jesyka Burks-Wiley leads the squad in scoring (15.8 ppg) and rebounding (6.3). Also averaging in double figures is Kinneary (11.0 ppg) and classmates Amarachi Umez-Eronini (10.5 ppg) and Kristi Dini (10.5). BU is the only school with four players averaging double digits this season.
THE HUSKIES: The Huskies opened their 2008-09 campaign with two Big East schools (St. John's, West Virginia) and a MAAC foe (Marist), but came out on the losing end in each contest. Sophomore Jasmine Crew and junior Kim Carr are the two Huskies averaging in double figures with each posting 11.7 ppg. Junior Kendra Walton is team's leading rebounder with 7.3 rpg through three games.
Northeastern has two more America East schools on its schedule, as it is set to play Stony Brook (Dec. 6) and New Hampshire (Dec. 14) this season.
BU VS. NORTHEASTERN: BU owns a 36-30 advantage over Northeastern in the all-time series. The Terriers have won 12 of the last 14 meetings, including a come-from-behind victory, 94-84, last season. At Solomon Court, BU is 12-15 over the last 32 years.
Northeastern was a long-time member of the America East, but in 2005-06 the Huskies joined the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). In 2005, head coach Kelly Greenberg earned her 100th career victory as a head coach against the Huskies.
LAST TIME OUT VS. THE HUSKIES (Nov. 19, 2007): Aly Hinton hit a career-high 35 points and Christine Kinneary tied a single-game school record for assists with 14 as Boston University rallied from a 10-point deficit to defeat cross-town rival Northeastern, 94-84, at Case Gym. Hinton was the first Terrier since March 11, 2005 to score 30 or more points in a single game.
The Terriers got 53.2 percent of their points off the bench as Hinton, the America East's Player of the Game, and Corinne Jean combined for 50 points - 33 in the second half. BU out-rebounded the Huskies by a 33-26 margin, dished out 25 assists and earned seven steals. In addition, the Terriers were 15-for-18 from the charity stripe.
For the fourth straight game, Kasey Devine recorded double-figure scoring with 17 points, while leading the squad with seven rebounds. Jean tallied a season-high 15 points, and Cheri Raffo put together another strong performance with 10 points.
BU VS. THE CAA: The Terriers are 70-90 (.438) all-time against the Colonial Athletic Association. While the Terriers are 36-30 all-time against Northeastern, they have only played them three times since the Huskies joined the conference.
