BOSTON - Having already secured the No. 6 seed for the America East tournament, the Boston University men's soccer team will look to build some momentum heading into it from Saturday's regular season finale at Albany with a start time set for 2 p.m. The Terriers (8-6-2, 2-4 AE) snapped a four-game losing streak on Wednesday with a win at Vermont, while the Great Danes (0-12-3, 0-5-1 AE) look for their first win of the season.
In a contest for the final berth in the AE tournament, sophomore Stephen Knox put BU back on track against the Catamounts by recording his first career multi-goal game for the 2-1 victory. He moved into a tie for second on the team with Samuel Appiah in goals scored at four apiece. Junior Aaron O'Neal remains the leader in both goals (10) and points (23), while sophomore Michael Bustamante has a team-high eight assists.
Defensively, senior keeper Hrafn Davidsson has a 1.05 goals against average and a .742 save percentage. He has five solo shutouts on the year and one combined with redshirt-freshman Trevor McManaman against Stony Brook. Since the 3-0 victory over the Seawolves on Oct. 3, the Terriers have been outscored 10-6.
The Great Danes offense has struggled all season, only managing six goals the entire season with only two in conference action. Three of their losses have come in overtime, including a 2-1 decision at Binghamton. Bo Jelovac leads the team with five points off two goals and an assist. Ian Peach also has two goals on the season.
Defensively, Adrian Foncette has a 1.58 goals against average and .802 save percentage. His two shutouts occurred at Siena and Vermont. Last Saturday, UMBC handed the Great Danes a 5-1 loss.
The Terriers lead the all-time series, 6-2-1, but are undefeated at Albany, 4-0-2. Last year, BU out shot the Great Danes, 22-6, but fell, 3-0, in the contest. In the last meeting on the road, Derek Puerta scored an equalizer three minutes after Albany's score at 71:36 to help the Terriers walk away with a 1-1 draw.
Following the game, the men will have a week to prepare for the opening round of the America East tournament on Saturday, Nov. 7. The opponent will not be known until the conclusion of the other league games this Saturday.
