
Terriers Drop 81-73 Decision to Marist

BOSTON - Four Terriers reached double figures, led by freshman Caitlynn Moran's team-high 20 points, however, the Boston University women's basketball team (3-6) dropped an 81-73 decision to Marist (5-4) on Saturday afternoon at Case Gym. Classmate Chantell Alford had a standout game as she contributed 18 points to go along with five assists, five blocks and two steals.
Moran also dished out five assists, while Alford earned America East Player of the Game honors after she poured in 18 points - one point shy of a career high - and brought down an additional six boards. Sophomore Alex Young netted 17 points on 6-for-16 shooting, while senior Aly Hinton was the fourth Terrier in double figures with 13 points. Hinton also collected a team-high eight rebounds.
For the game, BU shot 42.6 percent, 36.0 percent from behind the arc and it went 12-for-15 (.800) from the charity stripe. The Terriers were ahead by one, 69-68, with three minutes remaining, however, the Red Foxes outscored BU 13-4 in the final minutes of the contest.
In the first half, BU and Marist went toe-to-toe, as there were six lead changes and the score was tied twice. Young led the way on the offensive front as she scored 13 points on 5-for-12 shooting. Nine of her points came from behind the arc as she went 3-for-7 from 3-point land.
Marist led by as many as nine points in the first half, however, a resilient Terrier side chipped away at the deficit and by the break was down by just one, 40-39, after Hinton nailed a mid-range jumper and Young drained her third trey of the game. Of the Terriers 39 first-half points, 24 came from behind the arc as they shot 47.1 percent in the stanza.
The second half was very similar to the first half, as both teams traded buckets and exchanged leads 10 times. Moran and Alford highlighted the Terriers' second-half offense as the duo combined to score 22 points in the frame.
In the final 20 minutes of regulation, Marist's lead never extended beyond two possessions as BU collected 14 defensive rebounds, swatted four shots and forced five turnovers. The Terriers reclaimed the lead with 3:15 remaining in the game, however, down the stretch Marist went on a 13-4 run to close out the scoring at 81-73.
BU will enjoy a 16-day break and return to the floor on Dec. 28 when it heads to Philadelphia, Pa., for the Saint Joseph's Hawk Classic. It will face South Carolina on the first day of the tourney and tip-off is slated for 4 p.m.
