BOSTON - Facing off against its second of three scheduled Ivy League schools on the road, the No. 14 Boston University men's soccer team travels to Columbia for a Sunday afternoon contest set to begin at 2 p.m. Both teams competed Friday night, with the Terriers (3-2-1) dropping a 1-0 decision to Boston College on the Fox Soccer Channel and the Lions (1-3-0) falling to St. Peter's, 2-0.
The two teams have only met once previously in 1984, a contest Columbia won, 2-1. The Terriers already visited Harvard on Sept. 13, losing 1-0, and will travel to Brown on Sept. 30. During the preseason, BU competed against Dartmouth as well, winning the exhibition game, 2-1.
Following BU's second shutout loss of the year on Friday, junior Aaron O'Neal remains the leader in both goals and points with four and 10, respectively. Senior Samuel Appiah has 17 shot attempts with six of them on goal. Defensively, senior keeper Hrafn Davidsson has a 0.48 goals against average and .880 save percentage.
For the Lions, they enter the game against their third-ranked opponent of the season. To open the year, Columbia traveled to North Carolina and fell to Duke, 2-1, and NC State, 1-0. The team rebounded with a 3-1 victory over Long Island before losing to St. Peter's.
Four separate players have scored a goal with one of them, James Prince, tallying two assists to lead Columbia in points at 10. Starting the week, Will Stamatis sat atop in shot attempts with 11. Goalie Alexander Aurrichio has a 1.33 GAA and .778 save percentage.
Following the game, the Terriers will have two days to recharge their batteries before hosting Holy Cross on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
