BOSTON - After splitting this past weekend's games, the 19th-ranked Boston University men's soccer team return to action on Wednesday night at Nickerson Field against Holy Cross with the start time slated for 7 p.m. Though relatively close to one another, the defending America East champion Terriers (4-2-1) and the Patriot League's Crusaders (1-4-0) will be meeting for the first time since 1973.
The contest will be broadcast live on WTBU Radio and webcast with live streaming video through BU All-Access.
Last season, BU earned a 4-2 win at home against Colgate, their first Patriot League opponent since knocking off both Army (1-0) and Lehigh (4-1) in back-to-back games to start the 2001 season. The Terriers outscored Holy Cross, 22-5, in five games beginning in 1967 before falling to the Crusaders, 4-1, in 1973.
BU's offense will look to regain momentum from the start of the season, when it scored seven goals in the first three games. Since then, the Terriers have only scored two goals in four contests, but in both of the games they tallied a goal (then-No. 1 St. John's and Columbia), they won due to the stellar play of the defense.
Ranked 14th nationally in save percentage at .903, senior goalie Hrafn Davidsson is also 16th in goals against average at 0.415. Having already recorded four shutouts this year, the team is ranked 27th in shutout percentage at 0.57. Offensively, junior Aaron O'Neal is 53rd in points per game at 1.43, while sophomore Michael Bustamante sits in 79th in assists per game at 0.43.
The Crusaders started the year with a three-game losing streak, falling to Providence (1-0), Bryant (1-0) and Central Connecticut (2-1, 2OT) before winning at Northeastern (2-1). On Saturday, Sacred Heart shut out the Crusaders (1-0), who are currently ranked 180th in scoring offense at 0.6.
Jon Werth, Kyle Miller and Tony Rosales each have a goal scored, while keeper Thomas Booth has the lone assist posted. He is currently 55th in save percentage at .813 and 96th in GAA at 1.153.
Following the contest, the Terriers will visit Rhode Island on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m.
