Women's Swimming and Diving Upends Villanova, 152-148

VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Boston University women's swimming and diving team edged Villanova, 152-148, on Friday evening. The meet came down to the last race and the Terriers came from behind to earn the victory.
On the very last race of the day, the 400-free relay comprised of Kendra Cheng, Kirsten Tullis, Lauren Drake and Maria McIntyre came from behind to out-touch Villanova by just under a second, clocking in at 3:11.45.
The Terriers' divers were crucial on Friday evening picking up points with a 1-2-3 sweep of the 1M, as Melinda Matyas won that board with a score of 238.95. Chelsea Glincman placed second (212.75) and Sarah Colton came in third (212.05). On the 3M, Matyas was victorious again with a score of 252.37, while Glincman took second (236.55).
BU began the afternoon with a victory in the 200 medley relay as the squad finished in 1:45.90, out touching Villanova by just .10 seconds.
The next few races belonged to Villanova, but Tullis gave BU some momentum with a victory in the 50 free with a time of 23.96. Maria McIntyre finished in 24.44.
In the 100 free, Drake and Cheng took first and second-place honors with respective times of 52.36 and 52.73. Amanda Schmitz came up big a with a victory in the 200 IM (2:08.15) before the exciting finale in the 300 free relay.
With the meet on the line, Cheng, Tullis, Drake and McIntyre teamed together in the 400 free to earn the four-point victory, edging their Villanova counterparts by just under a second.
BU will return to the pool on Tuesday, Feb. 1 for a face off with crosstown rival Boston College at 6 p.m.
