
Swimming & Diving Defeats UMass, 177-122

AMHERST, Mass. - After dropping the first event, the Boston University women's swimming and diving team reeled off five straight wins en route to a 177-122 victory at Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon.
The Terriers won a total of 10 events, led by sophomore Kendra Cheng capturing the 100 and 200-yard freestyle races at 52.49 and 1:52.89, respectively. In the final event of the day, she teamed with sophomore Meaghan Grimes, freshman Alexsa Savage and junior Lauren Drake to win the 400 free relay by 0.37 seconds over UMass.
Savage led a Terrier sweep in the 200 back with a winning time of 2:09.32, as senior Francesca Ferrante and junior Kara Zebrowski placed second and third, respectively. BU earned another sweep in the 100 fly behind the efforts of junior Liz Floyd(58.25), Cheng and freshman Katie Kenney.
In other races, Zebrowski won the 100 back (59.35), Grimes captured the 500 free (5:06.73) and junior Megan Happ proved to have the most endurance in the 1,000 free (10:38.22) with a seven-second victory.
A day after winning two breaststroke races against Houston, junior Kristen Connors captured the 100 breaststroke against UMass' Katie Arnott by 0.13 seconds. Senior Amanda Schmitz was also victorious in the 200 fly (2:08.21).
Holding a 1-1 record, the Terriers will have two weeks of training before hosting fellow America East member Binghamton on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the Competition Pool. The dual meet will begin at 1:30 p.m.
