BOSTON - Sophomore Kylie Strom and freshman Kai Miller each found the back of the net to lead the Boston University women's soccer team (6-2-1) to a 3-0 victory over Harvard (3-2-0) on Wednesday evening at Nickerson Field.
Strom scored at 22:19 and 30:52 in her first-ever multiple-goal game for the Terriers, while Miller lit up the scoreboard at 57:20 for her first collegiate tally. Senior Alice Binns played all 90 minutes in between the pipes, making four saves, including a spectacular leaping stop in the first half, for her third shutout of the year.
The Terriers outshot the Crimson, 13-9, and put eight of those strikes on target. However, Harvard held the 3-0 edge in corner kick attempts.
Strom broke the scoreless deadlock in the 23rd minute, when she picked the ball up at midfield and drove to the goal, splitting a pair of defenders 20 yards out before unleashing a shot at the top of the box for the lower right side.
Seven minutes later, Harvard tried to retaliate as Rebecca Millock sent a perfectly-placed shot just under the cross bar, however, Binns came up with the save, punching the ball out of danger and preserving the shutout.
Strom upped the lead to two in the 31st minute as she stepped up to take a free kick from 18-yards out, bending it around the Harvard defensive wall and burying it into the left side of the net.
In the second half, Miller made it a three-goal game with her first collegiate tally in the 58th minute as she chipped the ball over the Harvard keeper after collecting a throw-in from senior Jessica Luscinski. Following the goal, BU continued to control the run of play, making short crisp passes through the midfield, while the backline held Harvard to just two off target shots in the final 10 minutes.
BU returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 18, when it hosts Yale at Nickerson Field. Kick-off is slated for 2 p.m.
