
Terriers Travel to UMBC for Saturday Afternoon Showdown

BOSTON - Currently riding a four-game unbeaten streak, the Boston University men's soccer team will travel to UMBC on Saturday with action slated to begin at 3 p.m. The Terriers and Retrievers are meeting for the 10th time since 2003 with the series even at 4-4-1.
Sitting at 4-5-4 with a 1-0-2 record in the America East, BU is currently one point behind Stony Brook (2-1-0) and Binghamton (2-1-0) while Vermont (2-0-1) is atop the league standings with seven points. UMBC (5-4-4, 0-2-1 AE) is currently tied-for-seventh with a single point.
During the streak, the Terriers have outscored opponents by a 6-2 margin with victories over Adelphi (3-0) and Stony Brook (2-1) along with draws against Hartford (1-1) and Vermont (0-0). Sophomore Nick Thomsonrecorded a 0.44 goals against average and 0.895 save percentage to help BU earn two shutouts.
Senior Michael Bustamante leads the offense in points with nine off three goals and three assists, while junior Anthony Ciccone has a goal and a team-high six assists for eight points. Redshirt-freshman Mac McGuire is third with seven points, having tallied three scores along with an assist.
UMBC is coming off a 2-1 loss at Albany after earning a 1-1 draw at New Hampshire and 3-1 victory vs. Howard. The Retrievers opened the conference schedule with a 2-1 loss to Vermont. Pete Caringi has a team-high five goals, while Milo Kapor leads with 15 points off three goals and nine assists. Guarding the net, Phil Saunders has started all 13 games and owns a 1.01 GAA and 0.781 save percentage with four shutouts.
Last year, Dan Louisignau posted three saves to help UMBC claim a 1-0 win at BU. Caringi helped create a turnover and fed Kingsley Onwuka for the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute. The Terriers finished the contest with a 12-11 edge in shots and an 8-3 advantage in corners but could never find the back of the net.
Following the contest, BU will return to Nickerson Field for a three-game homestand. The Terriers will host their final non-conference game of the regular season against local rival Harvard on Tuesday (Oct. 15) at 7 p.m.
