
Softball Hosts Binghamton To Open AE Play

BOSTON - The Boston University softball team (16-8) opens America East play when the Terriers host Binghamton this weekend at the BU Softball Field. The Terriers take on the Bearcats on Saturday, March 24, at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader then conclude the series on Sunday, March 25, at 12 p.m. for a single game.
BU enters the weekend series riding a five- game winning streak including a 1-0 victory over crosstown rival Boston College on Wednesday afternoon in BU’s home opener. Sophomore pitcher Holli Floetker (11-2) allowed just four hits and struck out five in her third shutout and ninth complete game this season.
Junior Emily Roesch drove in the Terriers’ lone run against the Eagles for her 14th RBI of the season.
Several Terriers sit atop the America East statistical standings entering this weekend. Sophomore Jayme Mask leads the league with a .385 batting average while classmate Chelsea O’Connor leads the conference with 18 runs scored.
The Terriers own the top three spots in hits for the conference, with O’Connor leading the way with 26, followed by Mask and Megan Volpano, with 25 apiece. BU leads the league with 79 RBIs with sophomore Amy Ekart being the top individual by driving in 18 runs.
On the mound, Floetker leads the AE with 10 wins while the Terriers’ pitching staff is tops in the conference with a 2.44 ERA.
Binghamton enters the weekend series with a 7-11 record and look to snap their three-game losing skid on the field. Junior Jessica Phillips leads the team with a .333 batting average while sophomore Mikala King leads the team with 17 hits and 14 RBIs.
The Terriers lead the all-time series against the Bearcats, 24-9. Last season, BU went 2-1 against Binghamton in the regular season then posted a 7-0 victory over the Bearcats in the America East Tournament.
