BOSTON - Concluding a two-game homestand, the Boston University men's soccer team will host in-state rival Holy Cross on Tuesday with action slated to begin at 7 p.m.
As part of Military Appreciation Night, the first 200 fans through the gate will receive a free replica soccer jersey with the first 20 BU students also receiving a free pizza. Everyone who presents a military ID will gain free admittance to the game.
After facing seven participants from the second round of the 2011 NCAA tournament, the Terriers (1-4-2) meet a Crusader squad that sits at 1-4-0 following Saturday's 2-1 victory over Rhode Island.
BU and HC are meeting for the third time in the last four years with the Terriers winning the last two contests by identical scores of 2-0. They faced off in 2009 at Nickerson Field for the first time since 1973.
Last year in Worcester, Stephen Knox ('12) scored two goals with sophomore Nick Thomson posting four saves in the shutout victory. This season after facing six ranked teams, Thomson has one shutout against then-No. 10 Boston College and a 0.738 save percentage.
He and the backline will face a Crusader offense that is averaging 1.20 goals per game. Josh Cintas leads HC in points with seven off three goals and one assist, while Monty Sanders is second with three off a goal and assist. On the defensive end, goalkeeper Michael Thompson has a 0.615 save percentage and 2.00 goals against average.
BU and HC share one common opponent in Providence. The Friars rallied with two second-half goals to defeat the Crusaders, 2-1, after notching a late goal against the Terriers for a 1-1 draw.
Junior Anthony Ciccone recorded the goal against Providence and is one of five Terriers to score this year. Classmate Derek McCaffrey leads BU in points with four after scoring the game winner against BC and assisting on a score against Wake Forest.
Following Tuesday's game, the Terriers will hit the road again to visit former conference foe Hofstra on Saturday (Sept. 22) at 7 p.m.
