BOSTON - Playing its fifth consecutive road game, the Boston University women’s basketball team will travel to Amherst, Mass., on Wednesday (Dec. 4) to take on Massachusetts. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the Mullins Center.
Wednesday marks the 26th overall meeting between the intrastate foes and the sixth straight season that they will battle on the hardwood. The Terriers (2-6) hold a slim 13-12 edge in the all-time series with the Minutewomen (2-6) after defeating UMass, 73-50, on Dec. 5, 2012 at Case Gym. BU is 3-6 when facing the Minutewomen on the road and fell to UMass, 55-49, the last time the Terriers visited the Mullins Center during the 2011-12 season.
BU is 4-2 against UMass under head coach Kelly Greenberg and will look to win back-to-back games against the Minutewomen for the first time since accomplishing the feat in the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons.
The Terriers are coming off four games in the span of 10 days as part of the inaugural Hall of Fame Challenge, capped by a 62-56 loss to Old Dominion on Sunday at the MassMutual Center. Junior Mollie McKendrick registered her first career double-double with a career-high 16 rebounds to go with 14 points against the Lady Monarchs. Senior Rashidat Agboola led BU with a season-best 16 points.
Agboola (10.1 ppg) and classmate Danielle Callahan (10.4 ppg) lead the Terriers offensively while McKendrick owns a team-best 7.4 rpg. The Terriers are averaging 57.4 points per contest and have had six different players lead the team in scoring. BU is shooting 34.8 percent from the field and 30.4 percent from beyond the arc.
The Minutewomen are 2-6 on the season and hope to snap a three-game losing skid on Wednesday night following their 96-88 overtime loss to William & Mary on Saturday. UMass earned back-to-back wins over Rutgers (64-63) and Hartford (63-59) in November for its only victories of the season.
Emily Mital leads the Minutewomen with 10.1 ppg while Kim Pierre-Louis is second on the team with 9.9 ppg. Rashida Timbilla leads the team on the boards with 8.5 rpg. The Minutewomen average 62.9 ppg and are shooting 39.2 percent from the field with a 27.7 percent clip from the 3-point line. The team averages 37.4 rpg.
Sharon Dawley is in her fourth season leading UMass after spending seven seasons at former America East foe Vermont.
BU will take a week off then continue its road-swing when the Terriers make the short trip to Chestnut Hill, Mass., to play Boston College on Wednesday (Dec. 11). Game time is set for 7 p.m.
