BOSTON - Thanks to a goal from each forward line and a 31-save night by freshman Sean Maguire, the No. 19 Boston University men's ice hockey team posted a 4-2 road victory against Northeastern on Friday night at Matthews Arena.
The Terriers (17-15-2, 4-10-2 Hockey East) never trailed in the game, scoring the game's first two goals before building a 4-1 lead early in the third.
BU remains in fifth place in the league standings entering the final day of the regular season. The Terriers are just a point out of third place and only two points out of first place.
Senior Jake Moscatel opened the scoring on a rebound outside the right post at 12:19 of the first with his first goal as a Terrier. Classmate Wade Megan made it 2-0 less than five minutes later when he finished off a rush with a shot that got through the legs of Northeastern netminder Chris Rawlings.
Leading 2-1 entering the third, BU got the eventual game-winner from freshman Danny O'Regan at 2:14 of the period. Skating on a 2-on-1, O'Regan finished off a give-and-go with junior Matt Nieto with a redirect in front for his 13th tally of the season.
Shortly after, fellow rookie Matt Lane pushed the visitors' advantage to 4-1 when he roofed a short-side shot past Rawlings from the foot of the left circle.
BU held a 37-33 shot advantage, as Rawlings made 33 stops. Each team went 0-for-3 on its power play.
Junior Cody Ferriero tallied a goal and an assist for the Huskies, who fall to 9-20-4 overall and 5-17-4 in league play. Senior Ryan Santana picked up a pair of assist for the Terriers.
The crosstown rivals with close out the regular season on Saturday (March 9) at Agganis Arena. BU will honor its six-member senior class at the end of the game, which starts at 7 p.m.
