CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - After helping lead the Boston University women's tennis team to a thrilling come-from-behind 4-3 victory at No. 63 Boston College with a win in the top singles position, freshman Lauren Davis has been tabbed America East Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Previously recognized on March 12, Davis faced off in her final match of the season against BC's Jessica Wacnik. The Eagle was the nation's No. 26 recruit in 2011 and was coming off a straight-set win against Florida State's No. 109th-ranked Francesca Segarelli.
Davis only captured two games in the first set but rallied for a critical 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory, as BU won the final three singles points.
BC is the highest ranked opponent the Terriers have defeated since beating No. 52 VCU in 2009. Davis' efforts also helped snap a 13-match losing streak to ranked opponents dating back to 2011.
