Terriers Conclude Day Three of Patriot League Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Boston University men's swimming and diving team sits in second place while the women's team is in third after day three of the Patriot League Championships hosted by Navy at Lejeune Hall.
Paced by four school record breaking performances on Friday, the BU men have accumulated 433 points behind Navy's leading 595.5 points while the women have earned 385.5 points to sit behind Navy (525) and Bucknell (431).
Senior Nik Astashinsky (3:56.79) and junior Alec Pokornowski (3:57.04) placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 400 IM to start the day for the BU men. Seniors Wesley Pate (3:59.71) and Knox Anderson (4:02.88) earned 10th and 13th place finishes.
Junior Lincoln Kupke placed fourth in the 100 butterfly (49.30) followed by classmate Ryan Bach in fifth (49.34) and freshman Brian Habacivch in 13th (50.54).
Junior Cole Puchi set a new school record with a time of 1:37.68 in the 200 freestyle to lead BU with a third place finish. Classmate Andy Vazquez took fifth in 1:37.89 while fellow junior Rodrigo Gonzalez placed 11th (1:40.34).
The records continued to fall in the next men's event, as freshman Austin Dickey set a new school mark with a time of 54.30 in the 100 breaststroke to finish second. Junior Mario Caballero came in seventh (55.75) while Andrew Guinther took 12th (56.60).
After setting a school record in the prelims with a time of 48.23 in the 100 backstroke, junior Connor Stuewe posted a time of 48.98 to place third in the finals. Sophomore Mun Hon Lee was right behind him in fourth place (49.43
The Terriers closed out the day by breaking the school record in the 400 medley relay while finishing in second place. Stuewe, Puchi, Dickey and Bach combined for a time of 3:13.87.
Freshman Danielle Yoon got the day started for the BU women with a seventh place finish in the 400 IM (4:24.93) while sophomore Mika Spencer took ninth (4:23.70) by winning the consolation heat. In the next race, the 100 butterfly, BU was led by sophomore Celia Simpson in fifth place (55.90) while junior Avery Visser took seventh (56.28).
Sophomore Stephanie Nasson earned a second place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.75 while freshman Lauren Dixon tied for fifth in 1:50.57. The Terriers also received points from junior Alexsa Savage in ninth (1:50.55) and senior Kendra Cheng in 15th (1:52.19).
Sophomore Karla Ferarra won the consolation heat of the 100 breaststroke to claim ninth place in 1:04.70 whole classmate Tess Harpur took 14th (1:06.14). Junior Courtney Grace (56.55) then won the consolation heat of the 100 backstroke to place ninth overall while freshman Christy Wilde (57.49) took 12th.
In the 1m diving event for the women, senior Chelsea Glincman posted 265.45 points to place third while freshman Kalli Roebelen took seventh (238.65).
The BU women closed out the day with a fourth place finish in the 400 medley relay, with Cheng, Ferrara, Simpson and Savage clocking in at 3:46.72, missing out on the school record by 0.02 of a second.
The four-day championship meet concludes on Saturday (Feb. 22) with preliminary races beginning at 10:30 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. The finals will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
