BOSTON - Owning an RPI ranking of 28 with a 12-5-2 record, the Boston University men's soccer team has secured an NCAA tournament at-large bid and will play at AAC runner-up UConn on Thursday with action slated to begin at 12:30 p.m.
The postseason appearance will mark 31st-year head coach Neil Roberts' 14th at the helm and the first since the Terriers captured the America East title in 2008. BU last appeared as an at-large team in 2007.
Making their 17th NCAA appearance in 18 years, the 9-5-6 Huskies enter the tournament unbeaten in their last eight games (6-0-2) and have outscored opponents 15-to-5 over that stretch. They feature the 17th-best goals against average (0.74) in the nation and have recorded seven shutouts during the 2015 campaign.
BU features three major conference award winners in Goalkeeper of the Year Matt Gilbert, Defender of the Year David Asbjornsson and Rookie of the Year Magnus Benediktsson. They have helped BU record seven shutouts and also post a 6-3-1 mark over the last 10 games.
UConn leads the all-time series, 31-12-3, dating back to 1951, but is only 2-1-2 in the last five meetings since 2008. The Terriers are 2-1-0 in NCAA matchups with the last game, a 3-1 win, occurring in 1988.
Thursday's winner will play at No. 16 seed Indiana in the second round on Sunday (Nov. 22) at 12 p.m.
