December 12, 2015 | Women's Basketball
BOSTON--Sharp shooting and success from long range put Marist ahead of the Boston University women's basketball team, 73-54, on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Foxes (3-7) shot 50.9 percent overall and went 11-of-23 from beyond the arc to bolster their lead against the Terriers (0-9). Meghan Green led BU with 22 points, a season-high total and one point shy of her personal best.
Allie Clement and Sydney Coffey were double trouble for the Terriers as they went a combined 9-of-16 from long range. Tori Jarosz was strong at post for Marist, tallying a double-double with 13 points and rebounds.
The Terriers dominated the paint, outrebounding Marist, 34-33, the first time BU has grabbed more boards than its opponent so far this season. This was bolstered by Kara Sheftic's performance at post, collecting a career-high 10 rebounds, five on both sides of the ball.
BU also outscored Marist, 36-28 in the paint with Green scoring 14 of those points off of the bench. The Red Foxes capitalized on Terrier miscues, however, as they scored 22 points off of 16 BU turnovers.
Every shot seemed to fall early on for Marist, who went 7-for-14 from beyond the arc in the second half. The outside pressure gave the Red Foxes a 31-16 halftime lead, which BU ultimately could not come back from.
The Terriers pressured at the end of the third quarter, going on a 10-2 run to cut the Marist lead to 12 points, 48-36. They used this momentum to start the final period, ultimately getting the Red Fox lead down to 10 points but it would be as close as they got for the remainder of the game and settled for a 73-54 loss.
BU is back in action next weekend when the Terriers travel to UMass for a 6 p.m. game with the Minutewomen on Saturday, Dec. 19.
